Video Tutorial
Download SourceTo start off with create a new Photoshop document with dimensions of 200 (w) x 70 (h).

Next, create a rounded rectangle with a corner radius of 10 px (default) and rasterize the layer. Open up the layer styles menus and use the following settings:

Done Yet? If so, step on to page to at the buttom! ![]()

First well you should creat a new layer (CTRL-SHIFT-N) or creat it in the “Layers” window.
Create an oval that covers the top part of the rectangle (around 35%-50% of the rectangle)

For the oval’s layer change the blending mode to Soft Light and the opacity to around 45% (you can also use a soft edged brush to blend the edges of the oval, this has not been done on this example.

You can then add text to the button. Remember to put it under the oval’s layer to have the highlight effect used on the text too. (The text colour cannot be black (#000000) or the effect won’t work, dark grey (#333333) often looks pretty much the same as black anyway.)

To create a reflected text effect, duplicate the text layer and rasterize it. On the same layer hold Ctrl and press ‘T’. With the transform handles around the duplicated layer, right click it and select ‘ Flip Vertical’ and finally move the layer into place below the original text.
Then with the flipped text layer selected add a layer mask, se the screen-shot below on how to do that useing Photoshop CS2.

Then select the gradient tool..

And that’s it, see the finished button below
